Turning Crop Waste Into Gorgeous Sunglasses

Wheat straw is a byproduct of wheat production and a renewable and sustainable alternative to most solid plastics.

It’s a BPA-free and food-grade material that can be made into all kinds of things, including sunglasses.

The stems of wheat contain a compound called Lignin which keeps the crop standing upright.

When Lignin is combined with sugar a tough and durable bio-plastic can be created that lasts for years in normal use but is fully biodegradable in a composter.It can also be melted back into a pulp which can be used again and again.
